Jaime + Richard
We are fortunate to be in a position in life where we feel ready and like God has called us to expand our family. Although our path to parenthood may be more difficult and look different than most, we are thankful for the blessing and miracle we know that's in store for us through adoption. We may not always understand a path we haven't had to walk down, but we do understand life can be unpredictable and sometimes difficult. To us, God makes no mistakes. Children are, and will always be a gift.
We may not be in your shoes, but we do understand how difficult this decision may be for you. We want you to know that we are praying for you and your baby as you navigate this process. We are here to commit and offer our lives, hearts, and home.
We want you to know that we are thankful to you for the blessing of parenthood, if we are the family you choose. Thank you for taking the time to consider us.
Why Adoption?
For us we never had the option to have a child naturally, but we have always hoped and prayed that one day we would be able to raise a child, or maybe even multiple children. Jaime has known since she was a little girl she would have challenges having a child. This was a conversation between us that happened soon after we started dating and we knew that our journey to parenthood would be a bit different.
We have always loved children and we are very close to our many nieces and nephews (we have 15 of them!), who we love to spend time with and, of course, spoil! We know that we have so much love to spare. Throughout our entire relationship building a happy, loving family has been something that we have strived towards and that will always be a priority. We would love nothing more than to bring a child into our little family.
Over the years we have considered other alternatives, such as surrogacy and IVF, but as we struggle with infertility and growing our family, ultimately we feel that God has been guiding us towards adoption. Although adoption comes with its own set of challenges, raising a child in a healthy household with a joyful upbringing is and always will be more important to us than anything else. We are excited to pour so much love into our future child.
Our Story
Sometimes you meet someone and your paths somehow just align. Call it a divine intervention, Gods will, whatever comes to mind, one thing we know for sure is we are lucky to have each other and are thankful for the journey.
We met when we were 17 (Richard) and 18 (Jaime) years old in high school. We were both at our local Sonic drive-thru at the same time with friends and as life would have it, we exchanged phone numbers. There was a dare involved for Jaime to roll her window down and ask a random group of boys, no one in particular, for a phone number. Richard, the shyest of the group, happened to be the guy who walked up to the car window and gave his number. What a wild bunch of highschoolers we were! Much too young to know where life would exactly lead us, we became best friends almost immediately and after graduating high school we both ended up in San Antonio for college where our paths continued to be aligned. Although we were young and had priorities such as finishing our bachelors and masters degrees, we knew this was it.
We were engaged just after graduation and got married 10 months later (about nine years ago). We've been in each other's lives for over fifteen years now. It's crazy to think how fast time flies. We have grown up with each other and the foundation of our relationship remains to be based on a strong friendship. Even when things are tough, at the end of day the one person we want to talk to about how our day went, or life in general, is each other.
Although life can sometimes be hectic, we strongly believe in facing challenges head on. We do our best to support each other through ups and downs in the best ways we know how. Extending grace and patience as best as we can with the understanding that at the end of the day the sun will shine again no matter how bad the storm.
No matter how busy life gets, we do our best to make time to do the things we enjoy. We love to go out and have a nice dinner (date night!), meet up with friends and family, go to a sporting event, take the dogs on long walks, go camping (with the dogs of course!), and most of all we love to travel (around the US and to other countries).
Meet Jaime - Written by Richard
Jaime is really one of a kind. When I first met her, her honesty and openness really took me by surprise. I have never met someone who is more genuine and honest in my life, almost to a fault. Jaime will tell you exactly how she feels about something and has nothing to hide.
Jaime really enjoys a challenge, whether that's with her professional career or during college. She will always step up to the plate and will never back down until the job is done. She has always been very curious and likes to know how everything works. As a child, she always insisted on watching her dad work in the garage, that's still the kind of person she is today. Someone who is always up for an adventure. Jaime also loves children, especially her nieces and nephews. Any chance she gets she is asking if they can come stay over for the weekend. Whether it's with the older or younger ones she loves spending time with them and taking them out for a fun day out and about. But as much as Jaime likes to go go go, at the end of an adventurous day she loves nothing more than to be home with her husband and dogs, cuddled up on the couch watching a good movie with some popcorn.
She loves with an open heart and is always there when you need her. Throughout our entire relationship I have never once doubted that she loved me or whether she would support me when times got tough. She is my rock and she will have my heart forever.
Fun Facts:
- Even at 33 Jaime loves grilled cheese with tomato soup and a good slice of pizza.
- Jaime loves to be outdoors, whether that be at the beach or in the mountains.
- Jaime played soccer for many years and is a soccer fanatic.
- The river and the hill country will always be one of Jaime's favorite places even though she's traveled all over.
Meet Richard - Written by Jaime
Kind hearted, patient, intelligent, humble, loyal, and compassionate are a few words I would use to describe Richard.
He's someone you can always count on and would never leave you out to dry. I really consider myself lucky to be his wife and to be able to create a life with him. He knows how to lend a listening ear and give a good hug when needed most. At the same time, he is not afraid to let you know when you may need to take a look in the mirror and can apply that to himself as well. He upholds a high moral standard and doesn't let what others think get to him while at the same time listening to what others say.
He's my calm and steady in a world that can be anything but. He's my adventure partner for life and we truly try to make our lives an adventure.
He's the most fun, present uncle you can imagine and he is the guy you can find playing with the kids at family gatherings versus talking to all the adults. The nieces and nephews flock to him and it is so fun to watch. To have the chance to parent alongside him and watch him be a Dad is something I have always wanted and truly look forward to as I know he will teach, love, and provide for a child so well.
Fun Facts:
- Richard's favorite movie is The Lord of The Rings series, which he can rewatch over and over.
- Richard played club lacrosse in high school and into college.
- Richard loves a good steak and enjoys occasionally spending the day smoking a brisket or ribs.
- Richard loves the mountains and a good day of skiing.
Our Home
We love our cozy home and the quiet neighborhood we live in. We are nestled in a cul-de-sac and live within walking distance to several parks, trails, and a short drive to our neighborhood pool. We take full advantage of all of these amenities with long walks, bike rides, and taking our nieces and nephews to the soccer fields. Our neighborhood is also a short drive to many fun activities such as the zoo, the beach, several museums, etc. All of our neighbors are friendly and we do our best to look out for one another.
We moved into our home in 2016 and have enjoyed making it our own over the years. It has always felt bigger than two people need, and we are looking forward to filling up rooms and making new memories with the addition of a child. Jaime in particular, loves to keep a very tidy, beautiful and warm home.
Apple and Huck
For the past 11 years our dogs have been our "babies". We take them on any vacation or camping trip that we can and at the end of the day we love to play with them and go on long walks. They love being around other people and getting all the attention possible. They are an especially big hit with our nephews and nieces.
We got Apple 11 years ago from the pound, and wow, you couldn't have asked for a more perfect and easy dog. She was already a year old and was completely potty-trained when we got her. Easy to describe training her is an understatement. She has a very gentle and sweet temperament and just wants to please people and chase her ball. Apple LOVES to swim and will refuse to play outside if water of some source isn't accessible. Apple is also great at tricks, you name it she can learn it. Apple is the one who wins in the beautiful dog department and everyone seems to want to pet her all the time, which Huck has a lot to say about (Mr. Jealous). She is 12 now and we cherish every moment with her.
Huck is now 9 and we also go him from a shelter when he was a puppy, just thirteen weeks old. Unlike Apple, he was quite the handful, especially as a puppy. He was always getting into trouble and was a real challenge to train. Nonetheless, we got there. He is now the cuddliest and most gentle boy. Any chance he gets he tries to cuddle with his humans. Huck loves to run and explore more than anything. We always have to go out of our way to find isolated places where he can run and run and run some more. He may not be as fast as he once was, but his adventurous spirit lives on strong. He also makes an excellent guard dog, letting us know if anything is out of sorts. He's our big handsome boy and is always there with a gentle nuzzle or cuddle.
Our Adventures
As a couple who has been married for quite some time without children, we've had the privilege and make it a priority to travel. It's our favorite thing to do when we have time off of work. We have been to some of, in our opinion, the most beautiful places such as Paris and all over Italy. The Amalfi Coast is a sight to be seen. We have been so lucky to have experienced many of the places on our bucket list. We also love to spend a long weekend taking the camper out to the river or a state park. The beach and mountains both frequently call our names and we aren't sure which one we prefer. When we don't have time to travel or go somewhere for a long weekend, we both enjoy sports and really like going to sporting events.
We love a good adventure, that's for sure, and we hope to take our child along with us in the future.
